LED street lights provide a better option for eye-friendly illumination. LEDs also offer greater color options and can provide a whiter light with better color rendering. When it's properly designed, the fixtures will drastically improve how clearly you see. It turns out that bulbs found in streetlights aren't like the bulbs in our regular table lamps or light fixtures at all. They are high intensity discharge, or HID bulbs, which are much brighter and last much longer than regular light bulbs.
The International Dark-Sky Association (IDA), a group whose purpose is to protect the night sky, recommends that LED street lights have a CCT of 3000K or less. These street lights will have a warm white glow that is safer for people and wildlife. The CCT of daylight is right around 6500K, which appears pretty blue. But why are there purple street lights in Texas? In fact, the defect is a result of “Phosphor displacement.” LED's are able to illuminate in a range of colors. Over time, as the lights degrade, the color of the lights can shift unexpectedly. The defect can cause the lights to change to a range of hues, a light blue to a deep violet. But what to do if street lights are too bright? I would strongly recommend if you have a pesky street lamp that is shedding unwanted light all over the place... pick up the phone and call the electric company and simply ask them to cover the lamp to reduce the light. The worst they could do is say no. And the best thing is reduced light to observe the night sky!
How do you maintain LED street lights? Check Connectors and Cords. Another important aspect of street light maintenance is to check the connectors and cords that connect the light to its power source. Check for any frayed wires, loose connections, or other signs of damage that can indicate a need for repair or replacement.
Additionally, LED lighting can be dimmed and can be used in a variety of applications. However, LED lighting has some drawbacks. It is more expensive than traditional lighting, and the light quality can be harsher than traditional lighting. Additionally, LED lighting may not be compatible with existing light fixtures.
